Sydney Roosters out to break 26-year NRL record

The Sydney Roosters will be looking to win back-to-back NRL titles for the first time since the Broncos did it in the 1992/93 season. Needless to say, a second NRL title on the bounce is one of the more elusive accomplishments in world sport, but the Easts have a great chance of going all the way during the 2019 campaign after they spent the offseason productively.

Ex-New South Wales Blues back-rower Angus Crichton has to be one of the most exciting signings made by the Easts in recent times and his passion already burns hot for his new team. Crichton has already declared that he wants to be at the Roosters for good after moving to the club he supported as a child, in a deal thought to be worth a $1 million a season for the player.

Joining Crichton at the Easts is Ryan Hall and Brett Morris who will undoubtedly make the reigning champions a stronger outfit. You have to doff the proverbial cap to the Roosters for managing to sign Ryan Hall in particular, who is England’s all-time leading try scorer as well as having won six Grand Finals with Leeds; it’s a world-class bit of business by the club.

Heading into the season, the Sydney Roosters go into the competition as favourites in NRL betting to win back-to-back titles at $4.00 by becoming Grand Final winners. Their nearest challengers are the Brisbane Broncos at $8.00 and there’s no doubt they will be going out of their way to ruin the Easts party so that they remain the latest team to win back to back titles, even if it was two and a half decades ago.

It feels like an eternity since the NRL was last in session and in fairness, it can’t start soon enough, for a number of very different reasons.

The offseason has seen a lot of controversies and the NRL chiefs will breathe a huge sigh of relief once the competition gets underway. From misdemeanours by Dylan Napa to Ben Barba, the sport has come in for another battering during the offseason and the spotlight needs to firmly be shone on goings-on on the field of play.

For the Sydney Roosters, they come into the tournament with all the right things being said about the club during preseason. Trent Robinson has made sure his men have flown quietly under the radar and stayed out of trouble, which is some achievement in the current NRL climate.

It’s all looking quite rosy for the Sydney Roosters even if a ball hasn’t been kicked yet this season. Records are there to be broken and with their new recruits being some of the best players to have played Rugby League, not just in Australia but in the world, there is every chance we may see history made this season. Nothing comes easy in the NRL, especially success, but there isn’t a team better equipped to come through the tooth and nail fight the season will bring then the Sydney Roosters.
